About Ucluelet, B.C.

Ucluelet is located 288 kilometres (km) northwest of Victoria, on the magnificent outer West Coast of Vancouver Island.

Bordering Pacific Rim National Park Reserve and located approximately 40 km south of its neighbouring community of Tofino, Ucluelet provides easy water access to Barclay Sound; a spectacular marine area that features the Broken Group Islands Unit of Pacific Rim National Reserve.  Ucluelet and the West Coast of Vancouver Island provide a fantastic outdoor recreation area; whether you enjoy quiet walks on a secluded beach or pumping your adrenaline on a surfboard, there is something for everyone.  The Resort is also located on the doorstep to the Wild Pacific Trails.  The trail system skirts the rugged cliffs and shoreline overlooking Barclay Sound and the Broken Group Islands to the east and the open Pacific Ocean to the south and west. It offers spectacular shoreline panoramas and seaward vistas through ancient cedar and spruce-framed viewing platforms constructed on the best headlands along the route.

The Village of Ucluelet offers an eclectic mix of shops, artisans and eateries and is only a short 15 minute stroll from the Resort’s front door.

The word Ucluelet (pronounced you-clue-let) is a local First Nations word meaning “safe harbour”.  The climate here consists of moderate temperatures and high precipitation year round, which results in a lush temperate rainforest and creates a home for wildlife such as migratory birds, bald eagles, black tail deer, black bears, cougars and wolves. Set on a peninsula with the community motto “Life on the Edge”, marine life is abundant as well. Harbour seals, Gray whales, Humpback whales, Orca whales, California & Stellar sea lions and plenty of fish such as salmon, halibut and rock fish, to name a few.

Ucluelet is emerging as a popular tourist destination being positioned near Barclay Sound, the Broken Group Islands, Long Beach and the Pacific Rim National Park.  It boasts numerous outdoor recreational activities including surfing, fishing, whale watching, kayaking, hiking, storm watching, and beachcombing. The charming village also features interesting community events, such as its Annual Pacific Rim Whale Festival.
